I’d like to take this opportunity to share with you some thoughts about diversity at Colorado Springs Utilities.
Providing equal opportunity for everyone is the law – a basic expectation – but that is only a small part of what diversity means. We must go beyond that and set the very highest standard for inclusiveness. For some people, diversity is about the color of one’s skin, a person’s religion or his or her gender. But at the core, it must also be about respect, honor, integrity and treating people with the inherent dignity they deserve. It’s up to every one of us to create an environment where each individual's human potential can be realized. We can accomplish that in a number of ways. Perhaps the best opportunity to foster trust, dignity and respect is in what we do everyday. Maybe it’s during a meeting with coworkers, a lunch break or a passing hello. The way you treat people can make a positive impact on their lives and on yours. Small gestures can make a big difference.
