Controlled burns
Colorado Springs Utilities plans to conduct several controlled burns near the Nixon Power Plant (Nixon Road and I-25) south of Colorado Springs this week. The burns will clear weeds that have blown in and piled up over the winter. Each burn will last less than an hour.

Dye testing
Also, March 22-29, Springs Utilities plans to use non-toxic dye to test creek flow rates. The following creek basins will be tested:

  • Sand Creek
  • Cottonwood Creek
  • Monument Creek
  • Fountain Creek
  • Shooks Run

Both projects are weather dependent. If adverse weather (rain, snow, high winds) does not allow maintenance to occur this week, Springs Utilities will reschedule.
