April 27, 2007 Nixon Power Plant gets largest overhaul in a decade On Tuesday, May 1 the media will have a rare opportunity to see the inner workings of a 208 Megawatt steam turbine. Unit one of the Ray Nixon Power Plant – a key component of Colorado Springs ’ power supply - is currently undergoing the most comprehensive preventative maintenance overhaul since the 1990s. Large planned outages are scheduled in the spring and fall, when our community’s demand for power is lower. This way we don’t have to buy as much replacement power, saving customers millions of dollars. George Luke, plant manager, will be available for interviews and a tour of the facility. When: 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1 Where: Ray Nixon Road . South of Colorado Springs on I-25, exit 125 Please contact Dave Grossman by 5 p.m. on Monday, April 30, if you wish to attend.
