Public invited to open house on Saturday

Colorado Springs Utilities will dedicate its newest wastewater treatment facility at 11 a.m. on Friday, July 13. The J.D. Phillips Water Reclamation Facility, located on Mark Dabling Blvd., south of Garden of the Gods Road, is the first major addition to the wastewater system since the 1930s.

The new facility, located on 30.8 acres near Pikeview Reservoir, is fully enclosed for maximum odor control. It also features new technology for automation and UV light treatment to kill bacteria.

A public open house, including tours, will be held on Saturday, July 14 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.

James (J. D.) Phillips, Utilities Director from 1973 to 1992, will be present at the dedication ceremony, as well as officials from Springs Utilities, the City of Colorado Springs and Pueblo.
