At today’s (7/18) Utilities Board meeting, Fort Carson officials will recognize 40 Colorado Springs Utilities employees for their efforts to build a 30’ X 60’ pavilion at Haymes Reservoir, located on Fort Carson. Springs Utilities employees volunteered approximately 350 hours in May and June 2007 to build the pavilion. The Utilities Board meeting begins at 1 p.m. and is held at the Plaza of the Rockies, South Plaza Tower, 5th floor, 121 S. Tejon Street.

The pavilion will provide shelter for military families, fishing enthusiasts and school children who recreate around the reservoir. Employees volunteered their time during five Saturdays to survey the site, drill holes for the posts, pour concrete, and to frame and roof the structure. Special equipment and expertise was brought to the site every weekend to assist in construction.

Springs Utilities employees volunteer their time all year. In only one month this year – from April 19 to May 19 – 367 employee volunteers and family members worked on 24 community projects and donated 1,583 volunteer hours.

In 2006, 690 Springs Utilities employees, their families and friends volunteered for 120 community projects for a total of 12,000 volunteer hours, and earned the American Public Power Association’s Community Service Award.
