Beginning Monday, July 23, and continuing for the next two months, Colorado Springs Utilities is replacing a 4-inch cast iron water main with a new 12-inch PVC pipe underneath West Cheyenne Road, between 8th Street and Lorraine Street. Traffic impacts on the affected portion of West Cheyenne Road will vary, but motorists should expect this stretch of the road to be closed during most of the construction period. Traffic delays are expected throughout the duration of the project. Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes whenever possible. While not expected, there is always a risk for intermittent and/or emergency interruptions in water service to area homes and businesses. Scheduled service interruptions will be communicated to customers 24 hours in advance. The West Cheyenne Road work is part of Springs Utilities’ Fire Flow Improvement Program and supports Springs Utilities’ ongoing efforts to provide sufficient water flow and pressure to fire hydrants.
