Colorado Springs Utilities generates most of the electricity for the community at its local plants. A variety of fuel sources including coal, natural gas and hydroelectric allows the community-owned utility to adjust to market conditions to keep costs low. Springs Utilities buys from a variety of suppliers year-round to get the best prices on natural gas. These and other cost-saving measures help keep rates stable for customers. Energy bills are one of the many items compared in the second quarter 2007 Council for Community and Economic Research (C2ER) study. Monthly bill amounts are based on typical year-round energy use for each city and rates in effect in second quarter 2007. Media Contact: 719-668-3848 |
