Customer Service Residential Business Community Environment About Us

The Colorado Springs Utilities electric system experienced a wide-spread outage today, affecting up to 19,000 customers, beginning at about 1:45 p.m. Our staff responded quickly and by 3:40 p.m., all customers were back in service.

A main component of the Martin Drake Power Plant was taken offline last night to repair some cables on the system. The back up system then experienced a failure this afternoon causing the outage.

Some customers may experience flickering of lights through tomorrow morning, Thursday, Sept. 20, as crews work to stabilize the system.

The outage affected customers within the general boundaries of Fillmore Street on the north; S. Academy Blvd. near Security on the south, Powers Boulevard on the east, and the mountains on the west.

Colorado Springs Utilities has one of the most reliable electric systems in the nation – delivering power to customers 99.9 percent of the time.
