Automated meter reading improves safety, conservation and the environment Automated meter reading (AMR) remotely reads customer meters and then transfers the data into the billing system, reducing the need for meter readers. - Fewer vehicles are necessary for the meter reading process, reducing dust and emissions, and decreasing the displacement and harassment to local wildlife in remote areas such as Cheyenne Mountain, Gold Camp, Ruxton Park, and Rampart. - Fewer employees are injured due to fenced yards, landscaping and violent dogs. - AMR provides daily meter reads, which has the potential to show customers a true picture of their usage so they can conserve and better manage their utilities bill. The AMR project is ahead of schedule and over 50 percent complete, with 293,000 AMR meters installed to date. Springs Utilities installs about 500 pieces of AMR equipment each day. Interview and photo opportunity: See an AMR installation first hand and interview a Springs Utilities expert on Thursday, March 27, 9:30 a.m., 2454 Astrozon Circle.
