We offer many energy and water efficiency/renewable programs to help business customers save money on energy costs and use energy efficiently. Use the links below to learn more about these programs and services, or contact us.
Rebates
Lighting
One of the most popular ways of incorporating an energy conservation program into your business facility is through a lighting retrofit. We offer business customers rebates to help cover the cost of retrofitting lighting fixtures with new high-efficiency products, such as fluorescent fixtures and high bay lighting to new high efficiency lamps and electronic ballasts. Rebates range from $9 to $125 per fixture, depending on the lighting retrofit scenario.
Peak Demand
The Peak Demand Rebate is a custom program with the goal of obtaining on-peak summer electric demand reduction. Program participants provide verified electric demand savings through the installation of eligible demand-side management measures. Energy efficiency or load-shifting HVAC, lighting, motors and other equipment may qualify. Colorado Springs Utilities provides a $400 per kW incentive for peak load reduction.
The Peak Demand Rebate requires “pre-approval in writing” by Colorado Springs Utilities before any work is done or any equipment is purchased.
Motors
Replace burned out motors with new motors and receive from $9 up to $400 per motor depending on the motor size and the numbers of motors replaced.
Synchronous Belts and Pulleys
Replace standard belts with synchronous belts and pulleys to receive a rebate of $9.50 for each belt and pulley replacement (requires changing both belt and sprockets) multiplied times the horsepower (HP) rating of each motor, with a minimum of a 5HP motor replacement.
Evaporative Cooling Systems
Replace air-cooled AC with direct evaporative cooling (swamp cooling) to receive a rebate of $162.50 for each Ton of air conditioning removed from a facility and replaced with a new Direct Evaporative Cooling unit, minimum 3 Tons.
High Efficiency Air Conditioning
Replace a Package AC Unit or Split System AC equipment with high efficiency AC equipment to receive a rebate of $8.50 per Ton that is retrofitted with a new High Efficiency Air Conditioning for each .1 EER above ASHRAE 90.1, minimum 3 Tons Maximum 25 Tons.
Package Terminal Air Conditioners (PTAC)
Replace PTAC units with high efficiency PTAC units to receive a rebate of $5.90/ton per 0.1 EER over code for each PTAC replacement with a high-efficiency PTAC unit – with a minimum of 0.5 tons cooling capacity per unit.
Electronically Commutated Motors (ECM)
Replace fractional HP standard motor with an ECM motor (Walk-in/reach-in cooler/freezer, HVAC fan powered VAV box, fan coil, furnace) to receive $48.30 for each fractional HP, SP or PSCs motors that are retrofitted with a new Electronically Commutated Motor. Minimum 25 Watts for SP (shaded pole) motors and 1/6 HP for PSC (Permanent Split Capacitor) motors.
Occupancy Sensors
Install occupancy sensors for interior lighting to receive $24.70 for each light switch control point removed from a facility and replaced with a new Occupancy Sensor that has a minimum control of 150 watts, including the ballast.
Renewable Energy
The Renewable Energy Rebate program supports and encourages customers to install solar photovoltaic generating systems at their homes (up to 10 kW) and businesses (up to 25 kW). Business and residential customers are eligible for a $3.00 per watt rebate to install solar photovoltaics. Combined with federal tax credits for solar (30 percent of the system cost), our rebates are making solar an attractive energy solution for businesses to consider.
Commercial Restroom
High efficiency toilets use between 1.1 and 1.28 gallons per flush and urinals use less than 0.5 gallons per flush. A rebate of up to $125 per toilet and $75 per urinal is offered to existing commercial customers who retrofit their existing units with qualified, high efficiency units.
Commercial Irrigation Equipment Rebate
Smart irrigation controllers, including soil moisture sensors, can reduce irrigation water use by an average of 16%. Businesses receive half the purchase price of a qualified controller up to $400.
Builder Incentive Program
Our Builder Incentive Program is designed to encourage Colorado Springs homebuilders to qualify their homes under the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Energy Star® New Homes program which are independently verified to save at least 15 percent more energy than local code requires. Qualified homes are eligible for incentives up to $850 per home.
Multi-Family Windows Rebate
An Energy Star® qualified window rebate is available for 1-3 story apartment buildings: $4.67 per square foot of glass area replaced up to a maximum rebate of $12,000. It also is available for 4+ story apartment buildings: rebate of $1.40 per square foot, maximum $12,000. Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs)
RECs are the property rights to the environmental benefi ts from generating electricity from renewable energy sources, such as solar, wind, geothermal, biomass or hydroelectricity. One REC equals 1,000 kWh of electric energy generated from a renewable source. The cost is $0.34 for each 100 kWh block of RECs.
Energy Information Services
Our Energy Information Services (EIS) enable you to monitor and track your electric and gas use through an Internet-based system.
Having immediate access to your usage patterns and energy load profiles is key. EIS provides an integrated, easy-to-use solution that gives you powerful information. EIS helps you to conserve energy, streamline core business operations, increase cost effectiveness and improve your profits.
Energy Audit
We offer free energy audits to large business customers to help efficiency-minded companies identify ways to optimize their energy use. These on-site audits are lead by a Colorado Springs Utilities expert who will evaluate your facility’s energy use and building systems. After the evaluation, you’ll receive a written report suggesting energy efficiency improvements. Customers are pre-qualified for this service through their account manager.
