We strive to provide our customers with the best service possible and continually look for ways to improve and evaluate our services. As a result, we have significantly changed the water tapping permit process effective January 1, 2008. Pre-2008 Process: - The Master Plumber or Licensed Excavator pays $75 fee for a ¾” water tap at the Customer Contract Administration office located at the Regional Development Center. The customer then calls the Water System Maintenance Department to schedule the water tap.
New Process: - The licensed plumber or excavator pays $80 for a water inspection fee at same location.
- The customer calls our Water System Maintenance Department at 668-5381, to schedule the water tap inspection/s. The customer requests the inspection within a given time frame and coordinates with the inspections on a first come first serve basis.
The master plumber or licensed excavator performs the actual water tap with the specified material according to Colorado Springs Utilities Water Standards and then our inspector will either pass or fail the water tap. For any service lines 2 inches or less - residential or non-residential - tapping into a Utilities-owned and maintained water distribution main, we will perform all construction with the following fees: - ¾” inch $250
- 1 inch $290
- 1-1 1/2” inch to 2 inch $430
The new water tap inspection fee was developed to include the costs associated with inspections, collecting the data and completing the administrative processes.
