*The Energy Policy Act of 2005 EXTENDED to December 31, 2013! Businesses can take a tax deduction for new or renovated buildings by reducing the energy costs associated with three components - lighting system; building envelope; and heating, cooling and water heating equipment. Buildings must meet the ASHRAE 90.1-2001 standard and be placed in service between January 1, 2006 and December 31, 2013 in order to be eligible.
The deduction is available in two levels:
  • Buildings that save 50 percent or more of projected annual energy costs across all three system components are eligible for a tax deduction of $1.80 per square foot.
  • Buildings that save a percentage of projected annual energy costs for one of the three components—building envelope (10 percent energy savings), lighting (20 percent), and heating & cooling (20 percent)—are eligible for a partial deduction of $0.60 per square foot.
*Please note that although we have made every effort to describe these tax incentives accurately, many details of eligibility will be decided by the Internal Revenue Service, and so this information is provided as a guideline only. We do not provide tax advice and suggest that individuals contact a tax professional with any questions specific to your situation.

Conservation is everyone’s responsibility, and we want to help you do your part. We are committed to being an environmentally-friendly utility so our rebates encourage customers to conserve energy, which in turn saves you money, while protecting the environment.

We offer a variety of programs to encourage customers to reduce energy and water use and to help lower utility bills. Since lighting, heating and air conditioning, refrigeration, and irrigation have the greatest impact on utility consumption; a business should concentrate its saving efforts in these areas first.

First, conduct an energy and water audit of your business to help identify areas where you may be wasting valuable energy and water. Taking advantage of the audit efficiency tips and recommendations is a great way to start reducing use, lowering your utility costs and saving natural resources.

Another way to save and put money back in your pocket is to take advantage of rebates and Federal Tax deductions for efficiency upgrades. Follow the links in the menu to the left for information on the rules and effective dates for individual rebates.

A few of our rebates are administered by Recharge Colorado. Visit the Recharge Colorado website for rebate requirements and application process.
