Four services, one utility

We provide electric, natural gas, water and wastewater services to citizens and businesses in the Pikes Peak region. This 4-in-1 service brings the convenience of one phone call to address all your utilities needs along with the economies of scale to provide some of the most reliable and low-cost services in the nation. We’re committed to our customers’ needs, and we’ll work hard to be your utility partner.

Reliable service

According to the 2009 Large City Distribution Reliability Survey, for participating utilities the average customer was without power for 71.5 minutes during 2009 while a typical Colorado Springs Utilities customer experienced only 49.1 minutes of power interruption in 2009.

Competitive rates

We don’t pay profits to shareholders. Any revenue above business cost is invested back into operations to maintain safe, reliable service. Most of the electricity needed by the community is generated at efficiently-run, local power plants. In 2009, electric rates for industrial customers were 25% lower than the regional average and for commercial customers, 41% lower. In 2009, typical, residential electric and natural gas bills in Colorado Springs were $124.79 a month compared to an average of $153.23 for all Colorado cities included in the 2009 Summary ACCRA Cost of Living Index. Energy bills averaged $181.86 nationwide.

Financial stability

We maintain some of the highest bond ratings in the country—and have for several years. Based on 2009 information from Standard & Poor’s and Fitch & Moody’s ratings services, our AA long-term rating was affirmed.

Involved in the community

We believe in helping improve the quality of life where we live and do business. Community service gives us a chance to give something back to the community that provides our livelihood. In 2009, our employees, their friends and families volunteered 19,637 hours in volunteer service to the community.

Exceptional customer service

We spend a great amount of time listening to customers, understanding their business and solving problems together. Our focus is to help customers succeed: we help customers with engineering concepts for utility redundancy; we offer rate options to help customers operate more efficiently; and we provide audits, advice and efficiency rebates to help customers reduce their costs. In 2009, Colorado Springs Utilities ranked third in business customer satisfaction out of 97 utilities participating in a syndicated, national study.
