Denise Sulski, community liaison for Springs Utilities, is passionate about volunteerism. So passionate that she was named 2006 Pikes Peak United Way Volunteer of the Year.

She received the award for increasing volunteerism and contributing to nonprofit excellence in our Pikes Peak region. Through her contributions, she ensures that an increasing number of people have meaningful and fulfilling volunteer experiences and that nonprofits manage excellent volunteer programs.

For Denise, volunteering is a family affair. On most days, she includes her two daughters, stepchildren and her husband in on the act. Their contributions range from helping at the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and making repairs at the local YMCA camp to planting gardens and fixing homes of low-income senior citizens.

Under her leadership, we set new records for employee volunteerism last year. More than 800 volunteers donated 6,053 volunteer hours on 118 community projects. And all of this on their own time. In addition, we donated 243 used computers to local schools and nonprofit organizations.
