Court Appointed Special Advocates As the executive director of Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) of the Pikes Peak Region, a nonprofit that relies on charitable donations for our survival, we view Springs Utilities as a great community partner and are encouraged by, and extremely grateful for, their support. CASA serves children who are victims of severe abuse, neglect, and domestic conflict. Ninety percent of the children we serve come from indigent families. Contributions from Springs Utilities help us to screen, train and supervise a pool of community volunteers who are a “child’s voice in court” advocating on behalf of these needy children in our court system. The work we do is critical to the well-being and future of these children. Possibly more importantly, our work is critical to the well-being and quality of life for this entire community, as is the work of the other nonprofits Springs Utilities has contributed to. Our future is in the hands of those who give tomorrow’s generation a reason to hope. Utilizing one cent a day from our individual utility payment to create funds that help thousands of families in need is indeed extraordinary. To think we as customers get to be a part of this legacy is truly heart warming. I applaud Springs Utilities and the city for their care of our most precious natural resources – children and families. Many years ago Springs Utilities aptly named their giving arm the “Community Focus Fund” because they “focus” on the under-served in our community. They have further demonstrated their commitment by encouraging and fostering employee volunteerism and by offering financial assistance programs. Social conscience often is a rare commodity in today’s world where we are all striving to get ahead. Over the years I have had the privilege of personally observing Springs Utilities create a culture of giving back. I know no better example of community philanthropy. Sincerely, Trudy Strewler Executive Director CASA of the Pikes Peak Region
Care and Share Food Bank We at Care and Share Food Bank would like to extend our sincere thanks and congratulations to Colorado Springs Utilities for their generous support of our work – and the work of so many other great organizations in this community – over the past several years. Through Project COPE, Colorado Springs Utilities has been a great partner to Care and Share for nearly a quarter of a century, allowing our organization to help thousands of local residents struggling to keep the lights or the heat on. Additionally, Colorado Springs Utilities has been an ardent supporter of Care and Share’s Children’s Nutrition Initiative, providing valuable resources that allow us to provide healthful food and nutrition education classes to hundreds of area children at risk of hunger. Colorado Springs Utilities' support allows thousands of our hungry neighbors to lead better lives each year. Whether one views Colorado Springs Utilities as a corporation or a quasi-government entity, they have a role in supporting community organizations because we maintain and promote a whole and healthy community. Ending hunger is an achievable goal. We can’t, however, do it alone. To end hunger Care and Share needs the help of corporations, government, foundations, individuals and organizations alike working together to provide resources for people in need. Please join us in celebrating Colorado Springs Utilities' commitment to improving the lives of those less fortunate. We look forward to their continued support of the community in the future. Sincerely, Nicholas Saccaro President and CEO Care and Share Food Bank
The Salvation Army As a long-time resident of Colorado Springs and an employee of The Salvation Army, I appreciate the fact that we have a very community-minded and generous services provider in Colorado Springs Utilities. Colorado Springs Utilities and their employees have given countless hours and donated a wealth of vital goods and services to the local Salvation Army – just one of the many charities they support. Through the company’s volunteer program, they gave over 16,000 hours of service to our community last year. The Salvation Army is a thankful recipient of their charitable spirit. In the last year, they helped paint and refurbish The Salvation Army’s homeless shelter, renovated Hope House, which provides housing for men transitioning out of the shelter and stuffed thousands of Christmas stockings for deprived and poverty-stricken children. Every Christmas, groups of Colorado Springs Utilities employees and their families volunteer hundreds of hours to stand in the Colorado cold and ring bells at The Salvation Army kettles. Colorado Springs Utilities keeps us all connected in more ways than we might know. As they are dedicated to serve the hungry, the homeless, and the destitute, they serve us all by improving our city as a whole. Rose Mertz Director of Income Development The Salvation Army |
