Hi, I'm Ollie the Otter. I was born in 1996 and hired by Colorado Springs Utilities to help teach you the importance of water and water conservation . Colorado Springs gets its water high in the Rocky Mountains. Since there isn't a river in Colorado Springs, the people at Colorado Springs Utilities bring the mountain water to town through underground pipes. These pipes take water to a water treatment plant where the water is cleaned. Then they deliver it to your home for you to drink and use. The people at Colorado Springs Utilities take good care of our water. You should, too. I can help you learn how to save and protect water. - Turn off the water when you brush your teeth.
- Take shorter showers and shallow baths.
- For a cold drink of water, add ice to your glass or put a container of water in the refrigerator. Remember, don't run the water.
You can also help protect our water. Don't flush or wash paper towels, kitty litter, diapers or your little brother or sister down the drain. Still have some questions about water and how to save it? Visit the Journey of the Keepers where you can learn a lot more about water conservation. Would you like Ollie the Otter to come to your school? Have your parents or teachers call 719-448-4800 or send me an e-mail to arrange a visit. I'll come to your school to teach you all about water. Remember, every drop counts! |
