A Utility Update for Education Professionals - January 2007

New demonstration board improves safety presentation
Springs Utilities purchased a new electric demonstration board to improve our safety presentations. It teaches the same concepts and messages, but provides improved safety and visual features. Other benefits include:
  • Materials that proportionately fit the board.
  • A self contained unit that no longer requires a six foot table, but rather an eight foot space near an electric outlet.
  • A safety switch that prevents inadvertent contact.
Our commitment to safety is endless. Request a demonstration.
Change a Light campaign a success
Although recent storm events caused a delivery delay, Change a Light kits were delivered to 14 middle and high schools. We delivered more than 80 kits, equaling more than 2,500 light bulbs. Although we couldn’t fill every request, every school requesting light bulbs received as many as we could supply.

Springs Utilities thanks Tom LePore and his D-49 students for helping us put the kits together. We would not have completed the timeline without their help.

If you received a kit, remind your students to fill out the pledge form.

Take the pledge to change a light in your home.

Water conservation kits return
Water conservation kits are available to middle school teachers again this year. Each kit includes materials for 30 students and teacher instructions. The kit helps students learn:
  • The importance of water.
  • The amount of water each student uses in an average shower.
  • Easy water saving methods.
In addition to conservation information, the kit also teaches students graphing and data collection skills that complement CSAP testing requirements.

Request your kit today. Please include the number of kits and date they are needed.

Tours, presentations and speakers
Working with the education community is important to Springs Utilities. To serve you better, we've automated the process for requesting speakers, tours and presentations. Request one of the following:
  • Classroom presentations.
  • Facility tours.
  • Mascot appearances.
  • Speakers.
