Spring caulking

This time of year is a good time to think about caulking. This is the time when everyone starts to paint their houses and work on the yard as the weather is just right. It's not too hot or too cold. Also, we are on the cusp of the summer cooling season, headed into air conditioning season. If you do plan to cool your home with an air conditioner, you'll especially want to consider caulking to keep the cool air inside. Caulking and weather stripping around windows and doors can save up to ten percent on your overall energy use. We have a variety of additional tips that you can consider for money and energy savings this summer.

Compact Flourescent Lamps vs. Incandescent Bulbs

Did you know that Compact Flourescent Lamps (CFLs) use about 75 percent less energy than old incandescent bulbs? As a matter of fact, CFLs  last up to 10 times longer too. For example, the life of an incandescent bulb is about 1,000 hours. The life of a CFL is about 10,000 hours.

The not so pleasant part about it is that they cost more, but in only a few months, you save enough money to cover the cost, and again they burn a lot longer.

I know what might encourage you to get started. How about a discount? Receive $1 off each ENERGY STAR® qualified Compact Fluorescent Lamp (CFL) you purchase! Just visit one of the participating retailers. After you purchase your CFLs, take the ENERGY STAR "Change a Light, Change the World" pledge. And, when your CFL eventually does burn out, donousehold replaced just one light bulb with a CFL, we would save enough electricity to light every Colorado Springs home for about 16 years! Now, that's encouraging.

Hello,

Thank you for providing this communication venue. Keep up the good work!
Education and communication will make progress.

In our 1981 year home, we've replaced nearly all bulbs with CFLs and are
very pleased with the results. We've only had one burn out.

We've further replaced our stove, fridge and dishwasher with highly
efficient, energy star rated appliances, and will continue replacing
other appliances.

We've upgraded our windows and insulated our home. We've reduced huge
amounts of turf and xeriscaped much our yard, reducing water demand and
creating attractive designs.

All of these result in a significant energy savings we enjoy that help
the triple bottom line.

We plan on doing the furnace and other initiatives as well toward
improving our efficiency, as time and money allow.

Thanks again,

Frank Kinder
