There is a hidden hazard in drinking
untreated, raw water directly from a mountain stream. It's a disease
called GIARDIA (gee-ar-dye-a). Giardia may or may not be present
in the water, but you can't see it -- and should be aware of the
danger.
Giardia is not life threatening, but it can make you uncomfortable
with diarrhea, loss of appetite, or an upset stomach.
Laboratories at the Colorado Springs Water Treatment Facilities
are continually testing for the presence of dangerous organisms
to insure that the water they provide their citizens is safe to
drink.
