GLIDING THE GREAT DIVIDE
massive
ridge of mountains
stretch across the vast horizon.
The towering Continental Divide rules
the fate of water in all of North America.
In essence, it divides Eastern water from Western water.

s you glide
over the Continental Divide,
you will notice that the lofty line of mountains bisects
the state of Colorado the Colorful.
High in these mountains,
pristine snow falls frequently and to enormous depths during the
winter months. In the spring, as the snow slowly melts,
water trickles and splashes down the sides of the mountains
into six large land areas or basins.

he Courts of
the Xeriscape are in the Arkansas River Basin
to the Eastern side of the Continental Divide in the city
also known as Colorado Springs.
Because the inhabitants of this area are now in need
of more water than naturally flows through the Arkansas Basin,
they collect over 75% of their water
from the Western side of the Continental Divide,
a distance in excess of 200 miles.
