The nature center is located at the edge of a riparian zone. It offers a unique "window" into the Cattail Marsh Wildlife Area and beyond to the mountains. Exhibits, programs, and slide shows introduce the wetland communities with their characteristic species, sightings and sounds.

Interpretive signs and observation overlooks outside the nature center enhance discovery and viewing opportunities. Along a system of well-marked trails, the stream, cottonwood, pond, marsh and upland terrace communities of the Fountain Creek flood plain can be explored. Within the Cattail Marsh wildlife Area, only pedestrian access is allowed.

Interpretive hikes in the park are hosted by the staff and volunteers throughout the year. Otherwise, the trails may be explored on a self-guided basis.
