TEACHER'S TRAVEL GUIDE TO
THE JOURNEY OF THE KEEPERS

THE JOURNEY OF THE KEEPERS is a virtual tour
of the Colorado Springs Water system, tracing water's journey
from the Continental Divide through the city's water treatment
and wastewater systems to the wetlands of Fountain Creek.

The JOURNEY is sponsored by the Colorado Springs Utilities
Water Resources Department. The JOURNEY is a student activity program
designed to supplement the KEEPERS OF THE WATER,
an interdisciplinary curriculum project based on the Colorado Springs Water System
with references to the Colorado State Curriculum Standards.

The JOURNEY OF THE KEEPERS is designed so students can
independently learn about the Colorado Springs Utilities Water System.
The program was developed for middle-school students, but
may be enjoyed by students at any level who have 7-8th grade reading proficiency.

The JOURNEY takes approximately 45-50 minutes to complete.
The format is linear but contains many links within topics.
Links do not take the students out of the JOURNEY program.

The following topics are text based with links to more in-depth information
(maps, photos, diagrams) within the topic:

Gliding the Great Divide
Waters of the Great Divide*
Finishing Fortress*
Courts of the Xeriscape*
Tanks of Las Vegas Street
Herons of Fountain Creek

[The asterick indicates the location of a question which must be answered at the end of the topic
in order to continue the JOURNEY. After successfully answering the question,
the student will receive part of the Water Wizard Word puzzle.]

The following topics are presented as a photo slide show with brief explanations:

Shredding the Pipeline
Blading the Mains
Diving the Drains

If the JOURNEY will be explored in several shorter sessions,
it is suggested that the topics be assigned in the following groupings:

Gliding the Great Divide
Waters of the Great Divide
Shredding the Pipeline

Finishing Fortress
Blading the Mains

Courts of the Xeriscape
Diving the Drains
Tanks of Las Vegas Street

Herons of Fountain Creek

These topics can be reached using the above Table of Contents.

At the end of the JOURNEY the students should have collected
their solution to the Water Word Wizard Puzzle.

The Water Word Wizard Puzzle is included to help you confirm
that students have completed their JOURNEY.
