Green Power
Colorado Springs Utilities purchases one megawatt of wind energy from the Ponnequin Wind Facility, located along the Colorado-Wyoming border. Customers can then purchase blocks of wind energy on a monthly basis.
Currently, our Green Power program is sold out, but more wind energy is on its way. As part of our Electric Integrated Resource Plan, we are preparing to bring 10 to 100 more megawatts of wind power to Colorado Springs by 2011.
Waiting list
Customers who are interested in purchasing wind power can sign up for our waiting list.
Signing up does not obligate you to purchase, but allows us to plan the quantity of our wind energy purchase and be able to contact you once it is available.
The cost of the proposed wind power will be approximately $5-6 per 100 kwh block. One block is equal to 100-kilowatt hours of electricity (the average home uses about 600-kilowatt hours a month). This cost is in addition to your normal bill. |
