Community members are invited to get green at the 2009 Colorado Springs Green Fair, Thursday, Sept. 10, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the City Auditorium, 221 E. Kiowa Ave.
Now in its second year, the interactive event, presented by the City of Colorado Springs and Colorado Springs Utilities, is designed to educate our community about the benefits of sustainable living. Participants can learn how using natural resources wisely can make a difference at home and at work.
Experts will share tips and ideas on a number of topics, including recycling, conservation, renewable energy, home improvement, transportation, higher education and Xeriscape™. Event-goers will also benefit from free workshops, which are held throughout the day and hosted by local professionals knowledgeable about sustainable living.
- 9 a.m. Conservation Hardware – Sustainability 101
- 10 a.m. Pikes Peak Urban Garden – Composting and prepping soil for spring
- 11 a.m. Xeriscaping with Colorado Springs Utilities
- Noon BETTR Recycling
- 1 p.m. Pikes Peak Sustainable Business Network
- 2 p.m. Colorado College Student Energy Audits and Retrofits program
- 3 p.m. Green Building with the Southern Colorado USGBC and Farnsworth Group

On-site recycling of household batteries, eyeglasses and sporting goods (climbing ropes, wet suits and bicycle tubes) will be available as well
All who attend will be eligible for door prizes – tote bags created from reused vinyl banners. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mug for coffee, tea and water, as part of the effort to create a waste-free event.
