In the spotlight: Plugging in to electric vehicles
ev.jpgOn Dec. 9, Colorado Springs Utilities in collaboration with Nor'wood Development Group unveiled the first free public electric vehicle charging station in southern Colorado. The Level II dual station is located at the First & Main Town Center at Powers Boulevard and North Carefree in the parking lot in front of the Cinemark Theater.

First & Main Town Center was chosen as a pilot site due to its public exposure and opportunity for extended charging time along with the relative low impact on the Colorado Springs electric grid system. One of the goals of this pilot program is to collect valuable information needed to expand EV charging stations to other parts of Colorado Springs. The data collected will also be an invaluable resource for better understanding how electric vehicles impact our community resources.

"It’s exciting to be part of this ground-breaking demonstration project,” said Colorado Springs Utilities CEO Jerry Forte. “As a contributor, we will gain more knowledge about electric vehicle technology that will help us better use future renewable energy sources and plan for our community’s energy needs.”

“We’re excited to install the first public charging station in Southern Colorado. Added Fred Veitch, Nor’wood Development Group’s Vice President of Commercial Development. “We hope this pilot program will help provide the community with a new sustainable resource and provide insight into the market for possible expansion.”
