Colorado Springs homeowners pay less to power and heat their homes than residents in all other large Colorado cities. Typical combined electric and natural gas bills in Colorado Springs are $125.20 a month compared to an average of $155.84 for all Colorado cities included in the Third Quarter 2009 ACCRA Cost of Living Index. Energy bills average $179.38 nationwide.

Colorado cities included in the report
Denver$200.52
Boulder$174.06
Gunnison$156.45
Glenwood Springs$152.49
Pueblo$152.38
Grand Junction$150.42
Loveland$135.18
Colorado Springs$124.58

Bill amounts are determined by typical energy consumption in each city and rates in effect in the third quarter of 2009. Average energy use in Colorado Springs is somewhat lower than many parts of the country due to our relatively moderate climate. Colorado Springs Utilities keeps its electric rates low through efficient operations and by generating most of the electricity for the community at its local power plants. A proactive hedging program, long-term contracts and use of underground storage help keep natural gas rates relatively stable.
