Green Power
Designate a portion of your electric consumption to clean, wind-generated electricity and help protect the environment. With your help, Green Power brings renewable energy to Colorado Springs.

Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) Your participation in our REC program supports emerging renewable energy technologies such as wind, solar and geothermal. The following examples are provided for your convenience. You are welcome to purchase any number of RECs you please. Environmental benefits include reduction of pollution into the earth’s atmosphere, reduced coal mining and gas drilling, and the reduction of water resources used for power plant cooling. Many people consider the primary environmental benefit of RECs to be the reduction of emissions of global warming gases.

You can retire RECs in 100 kilowatt hour (kWh) blocks on a monthly basis. The following examples are provided for your convenience. You are welcome to purchase any number of RECs you please. Residential Global Guardian: 1,000 kWh (10 blocks) per month: enough to offset up to 100% of the electricity used in a large house. Price per month: $3.40. Planet Protector: 600 kWh (6 blocks) per month: enough to offset up to 100% of the electricity used in an average house. Price per month: $2.04. Climate Conservationist: 400 kWh (4 blocks) per month: enough to offset up to 100% of the electricity used in a small house or apartment. Price per month: $1.36. Business Global Guardian: 400,000 kWh (4,000 blocks) per month: enough to offset up to 100% of the electricity used in a large industrial plant. Price per month: $1,360.00. Planet Protector: 100,000 kWh (1,000 blocks) per month: enough to offset up to 100% of the electricity used in a large commercial business. Price per month: $340.00. Climate Conservationist: 6,000 kWh (60 blocks) per month: enough to offset up to 100% of the electricity used in a small business. Price per month: $20.40. Quantity: blocks @ $0.34 each = per month total
This charge will be added to your Colorado Springs Utilities monthly bill. After a REC is retired it cannot be re-sold a second time to another customer or used to comply with the Colorado Renewable Energy Standard.
