Water 2012 events for families
Brush up on water with a good book or movie: Learn everything you ever wanted to know about water. Check out our adult and children's book and film lists. If you'd like to put a hold on any of these materials, click here.
 
Water Wonders: Can you create a cloud in a bottle? Will a balloon held over a burning flame pop? Come enjoy this family program with fun science expeiments about water, the water cycle and saving water. Great for all ages! Register through the Pikes Peak Library District. Schedule is as follows:

Be an Astronaut (at the Space Foundation): Just like astronauts on the International Space Station, your family will budget for and build a water filtration system to turn undrinkable water into water suitable for drinking. May 8 and October 4 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Call 719-955-3240 to register.
 
Water Wise: Build your 200 mile water supply system and watch how bugs eat our "potty bits" in this program about your water supply and water treatment. You'll be surprised how many other people drink and use the same water you do! Targeted for ages 8 and up. At East Library. Dates and times TBD. Register through the Pikes Peak Library District.
 
Rescue the Water: Where does that candy wrapper you dropped on the ground go? Families can see, feel and touch what happens when they add different contaminants to driveways, lawns, gutters and streets. Participants will actively pollute parts of a city to see the effects on community water resources. Great for all ages! Dates, times and location TBD. Register through the Pikes Peak Library District.
 
World of Water: Compete for the cleanest water and get your hands wet while you learn more about household pollutants and better ways to conserve. Great for all ages! Dates, times and location TBD. Register through the Pikes Peak Library District.
 
Water We Care: Play multiple games at the Bear Creek Nature Center to discover how cool water is and perform a water quality test on a creek sample. Your water sample may include a live critter from Bear Creek. Good for all ages! Dates and times TBD. Register through the Pikes Peak Library District.
 
Fountain Creek Restoration Celebration from Rocky Mountain Field Institute: picnic and tour the completed restoration projects along Fountain Creek in Manitou Springs. Scheduled for June 2, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at Memorial Park, Manitou Springs. Contact Liz Nichol at 719-471-7736 or rmfi@rmfi.org
 
Interactive tabletop exhibit: See a unique tabletop exhibit from Colorado Springs Utilities with interactive Water Activity Station from Science Matters, a Children’s and Adult Reading List from Pikes Peak Library District, and an elementary student Art Exhibit from Howbert Elementary, at locations listed below (for all ages):
