Smart technology powers the home of the future

Smart Home in Flying Horse RanchWe’re partnering with Classic Homes for the 2019 Colorado Springs Parade of Homes to showcase the parade’s smartest home yet, and to learn how smart technology will power the future.

You can join us for a special 'Ask the Experts' tour with our energy efficiency experts on Saturday, August 17 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at 1857 Clayhouse Drive. (Driving directions: from I-25; Take I-25 to Interquest Pkwy; left onto Voyager Pkwy; right onto Ridgeline Drive. The home is on the corner of Clayhouse Drive and Ridgeline Drive). We hope you find inspiration and new ways to incorporate smart technology into your own home.

This 4,500-square foot home in Flying Horse Ranch combines smart home technology to increase energy and water efficiency, along with a solar power and battery storage system and an electric vehicle charger.

This innovative pilot project was initiated to help us learn how smart technology may impact future energy operations. This year, record numbers of customers are installing solar energy and seeking new ways to be environmentally sustainable.

Features of the home include motion-sensing switches, water heater smart control, leak sensor technology, smart thermostat, electric vehicle plug and a smart irrigation controller.

For additional efficiency tips for your home, visit our Conservation and Environmental Center at 2855 Mesa Road from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday to get ideas and information about our energy and water efficiency rebate programs.
