Thanks to the efforts of our dedicated employees, Unit 7 at the Martin Drake Power Plant is scheduled to be put back into service later today after a small, isolated fire last Tuesday night. Per the Colorado Springs Fire Department announcement below, the fire was ruled accidental. After completing a full investigation, we determined that lube oil leaked out of a drain box cover located inside the turbine. Once enough oil had accumulated on surrounding insulation, it ignited causing the small fire. Expected recovery costs from this event are expected to be less than $50,000. We appreciate the quick response of plant employees and firefighters in their efforts to extinguish the fire.
