Frequently asked questions for certified backflow testers

Frequently asked questions for certified backflow testers

How do I report test results?
Test results must be submitted online through our Online Test Tracking & Reporting (OTTR) system. Once you have registered with Colorado Springs Utilities, you will receive an email with your user name and password to log into OTTR. If you lose or forget your password, you can reset it using the link at the bottom of the tester log page.

You will also need to use our customer's web access code. When we notify customers to complete their annual test, we provide them with new access codes good for that year.

If you need assistance, OTTR has an online help directory accessible under the question mark at the top of each page. If you need additional assistance, please email us and we'll be glad to assist you.

How to I correct information or document that a backflow prevention assembly has been replaced?
If you discover a backflow prevention assembly has been replaced or errors on a customer's notice (type, size, make, model, or serial number), please submit a correction form. You may fill out your own form, or a blank field test report, and either email or fax it back to us. The form must contain the water meter number for the location that needs a replacement or correction.

Why are meter numbers important to the backflow prevention program?
Backflow prevention assemblies are commonly located immediately adjacent to water meters, making water meters the most precise "address" we have for the location of each assembly. Street addresses don't always provide the best guidance because a facility may have multiple buildings and multiple backflow prevention assemblies. As part of our updated survey process, we will record GPS locations, but for now, the meter remains the best location information we have.
