The Story of Colorado Springs Utilities

Welcome to your story...Colorado Springs Utilities is a treasure that we, the people of Colorado Springs, own and govern together through our City government. Our successful, time-proven system is uniquely ours. From our shared history, we build today and tomorrow.

Retiring CEO Jerry Forte has written a 120-page book chronicling the history of Colorado Springs Utilities, from the beginning of our water, wastewater, natural gas and electric services through the challenges of the 21st Century. Key themes include how each service began, how our citizens voted to take over the natural gas and electric services, how we continuously plan for the future, and how we maintain the tradition and value of citizen ownership and citizen governance.

A limited number of books were printed and are available for $15 at the Pioneers Museum store. Net proceeds from the sales of the book will benefit Project COPE, a utilities payment assistance program to help families and individuals struggling financially due to a personal crisis or emergency.

Copies of the book will also be available through the Pikes Peak Library District.
