APPA Lineworkers Rodeo

Hundreds of lineworkers from across the country will gather in Colorado Springs to compete in the American Public Power Association (APPA) Lineworkers Rodeo.

Competitors will descend on property adjacent to the Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site on March 30 to demonstrate how quickly and safely they can climb power poles, hang transformers, rescue injured workers and perform rope tosses and other duties commonly required of lineworkers.

The rodeo is free and open to the public! For an overview of the site and associated activities, please see the grounds map.

Being a lineworker requires tremendous skill and knowledge. This is a great opportunity for customers to get an up-close look at workers as they demonstrate what it really takes to keep the power on. Lineworkers will mimic tasks that they do on the job.

There’s no live electricity involved in the rodeo, but the competitors must use procedures as if there were.

Springs Utilities will be represented at the event by five, 3-person journeyman teams and seven apprentices.

More than 100 Springs Utilities employee volunteers will be staffing the event. Read more about them here.

The Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site is an educational, non-profit living history farm and museum that depicts life in the Pikes Peak region in four time periods from 1775 to 1907. Learn more about Rock Ledge Ranch.

Parking will be at 2424 Garden of the Gods Road, 80919. Shuttles will be available throughout the day. Please see our parking map for details.
