The area is located 4.2 miles east of Woodland Park on Rampart Range Road and is encompassed by the Pike National Forest. Here you will find aspen and Ponderosa pine forests with Douglas fir mixed in the cooler, wetter, south-facing slopes. The United States Forest Service manages recreation around Rampart Reservoir. Camping is allowed in designated campgrounds only. Other activities include hiking, biking, fishing, motorized boating on Rampart on specific week days and picnicking.
There is approximately 274 acres surrounding Northfield and Nichols Reservoirs with equestrian, hiking, biking and fishing at Nichols only. Both Rampart and the Northfield systems are subject to seasonal closures. Please consult the Forest Service’s web page for boating and closure information.
