Southern Delivery System: Water for generations
Colorado Springs is the second largest city in Colorado and is not located near a major water source. Previous generations built a state-of-the-art system to bring customers high quality, reliable water from across the Continental Divide. The Southern Delivery System (SDS) – a 50-mile underground pipeline from Pueblo Reservoir to Colorado Springs – is the next critical component needed to sustain our community for decades to come.
Water – Everything you ever wanted to know
The water system that serves Colorado Springs is complex and far-reaching. Did you know some of your water has travelled up to 100 miles to get to town? How does our drinking water compare in National taste tests? Has the Waldo Canyon fire affected our water quality? We will customize a water presentation to cover topics such as water system engineering, watershed management, water quality or water law. Presentations are given at your facility or ours, with a minimum of 20 people required.
Future water planning - Integrated Water Resource Plan
Continuous long-term water planning is the reason Colorado Springs has an excellent and reliable water system today that supports our economy and quality of life. Utilities experts explain our Integrated Water Resource Plan (IWRP) currently in development. This plan will serve as our community’s roadmap for ensuring a reliable, cost-effective water supply for the next 50 years.
Future energy planning - Electric Integrated Resource Plan (EIRP)
We address our community’s electric needs through the Electric Integrated Resource Plan (EIRP), which is designed to meet our future-energy demand. The result is a plan that focuses on safe, reliable power that is respectful of the environment, while minimizing costs to ratepayers. The EIRP process is underway and project team members are available for presentations and to obtain feedback from community groups.
Experienced professionals use a live electric demonstration board to illustrate our complex electrical infrastructure and show how the safe use of electricity can affect all aspects of our daily activities. This presentation is an excellent complement to safety meetings for community contractors or anyone who wants to know more about electricity and how to be safe around it. Access to an electrical outlet is required.
Natural gas safety
Recognizing danger is key to taking action that could protect you, your family, home, or business. This demonstration features a natural gas explosion and also informs about the dangers of carbon monoxide and how to respond to an emergency. The presentation can be customized for your organization and requires a 4’ table for the safety demonstration.
