Leaks are one of the biggest causes of water waste. Even small leaks add up over time, increasing your water bill and potentially causing damage to your facility.
Detecting leaks can be challenging, especially if they are silent or out of sight. Thanks to our AMI Continuous Water Use Alert program, commercial customers are now notified of a potential water leak in their system.
Our Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) provides hourly consumption data. If continuous water use of 37 gallons or more over a 48-hour period is detected, we will send an alert to the contact email on the account informing the customer that a significant water leak may be occurring at their facility.
So far this year, 442 alerts have been sent to commercial customers notifying them of potential water leaks. In most cases, these customers were not aware of the leak. Based on usage patterns, many of the alerts indicated a major leak, which is defined as 50+ gallons per hour of wasted water. Typically, these leaks are traced to leaking or broken toilets, indoor plumbing or irrigation systems.
