On April 28, 2026, City Council approved a Natural Gas Integrity Federal Compliance Charge bill rider to fund safety upgrades to our natural gas system. The bill impact will be:
+$8.54 per month (a 17% increase) to the residential natural gas bill. This is a 2.9% increase to the total four service utility bill.
+$18.00 per month to the commercial and industrial gas bill.
This bill rider becomes effective on July 1, 2026. Bill riders are reevaluated annually.
In late 2024, we received notice from federal regulators to accelerate the replacement of bare steel gas lines. We reached an agreement with regulators to complete the replacement of bare steel in 10 years.
The accelerated work will require the replacement of approximately 39 miles of infrastructure annually. Long-term, these projects enhance safety and improve system reliability. In the short term, affected customers may experience construction impacts or temporary natural gas service interruptions as crews safely replace pipeline segments or service lines.
