Public Power and Public Natural Gas Week

Across the country, more than 2,000 public power utilities and 1,000 public natural gas utilities serve millions of Americans through local ownership, local control and a commitment to the communities they call home.

For nearly 100 years, we have proudly been owned by the customers we serve. As a community-owned utility, decisions about your services are made right here in Colorado Springs by locally elected officials, with rates set to cover the cost of providing safe and reliable service, not to generate profits for outside shareholders.

Public ownership allows us to focus on what matters most: reliable utility services, environmental stewardship, economic vitality and giving back to our community. Our employees volunteer thousands of hours each year and many live, work and raise their families right here in the Pikes Peak region.

Every day, our employees operate and maintain critical infrastructure that powers our community, including seven electric generation plants, 55 substations, more than 4,000 miles of power lines, five natural gas gate stations and more than 2,800 miles of natural gas main serving homes and businesses across the region.

As we celebrate Public Power and Public Natural Gas Week, we're grateful for the trust our customers place in us and proud to continue serving our community as a utility that's powered by and for the people of Colorado Springs.
