 Power quality & reliability

Each year, we participate in an IEEE Reliability Benchmarking Survey. This survey measures several reliability indices to include number of outages experienced in a year and how fast power can be restored after each outage.

We are proud of the fact that year after year our customers receive some of the most reliable electric service in the nation with power available more than 99.99 percent of the time.

For those few who do experience a power outage, they are only out of service for a short period. In fact, per this survey, we were just rated as the top utility in the nation when it comes to how quickly we restore power to our customers – a testament to our dedicated employees who work rain or shine and our resilient electric system.

According to IEEE Standard, the median value to restore power during an outage for North American utilities is almost two hours. Our average time is just 65 minutes.

Power outages are typically caused by events such as vehicles hitting roadside electrical equipment, equipment failures, underground cable dig-ins, lightning or other extreme weather conditions. If you experience a power outage, you can report and track it on our outage map.
