Electric vehicles (EVs) are growing in popularity, especially in Colorado. In 2025, one in four cars sold in Colorado was an EV, one of the highest adoption rates in the country.
We offer ways for EV owners to save money while charging their vehicle safely and responsibly.
Managed charging
Managed charging is a way to charge electric vehicles smarter and more efficiently, reducing costs for both customers and utilities. It involves scheduling charging at times when demand for electricity is lower, saving you money and reducing strain on our power grid.
We have contracted with Optiwatt to provide managed EV charging services to our customers. This service ensures your car is charged and ready to drive. However, it prioritizes charging during off-peak hours[tooltip text="Weekdays before 5 p.m. and after 9 p.m., including weekends and holidays."], when the price of electricity is lower for you.
If you choose not to enroll in the Optiwatt program, there other options to schedule EV charging, including:
- In-vehicle scheduling: You can schedule charging through the vehicle’s infotainment system or via a mobile app. Choose the “ready by departure time” or "complete by" schedules to ensure the vehicle is fully charged when you need it.
- Smart EV home chargers: Shift charging away from on-peak hours.[tooltip text="Weekdays from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m."] Set the charger to start during off-peak hours, when electricity rates are lower.
Important note
If your vehicle or smart charger only offers a “start charging at” option, we recommend charging at a random time during off-peak hours. This helps reduce the risk of creating a secondary peak in demand.
Public charging
To expand our community’s EV charging network, we installed chargers at our facilities and on the first floor of the City Administration Building parking garage downtown.
