What is a water submeter and how is it different from the main water meter?

A submeter is a customer-owned device that measures water usage for a specific area or system within a customer’s property—like irrigation, cooling towers, or tenant spaces.

Unlike the main meter, which tracks total water use for the entire property and which is owned by Utilities, submeters help isolate and monitor separate, individual systems or users for a business owner or property manager.
