Colorado Springs Utilities

Strong infrastructure helps communities thrive. Just as electric, natural gas, water and wastewater systems support daily life, digital infrastructure is becoming increasingly important to how communities operate, grow and stay connected.
That's why we continue to invest in a citywide fiber network that will serve our community for generations.
Today, we announced gFiber as the new internet service provider (ISP) for our fiber network. Construction and expansion of the network will continue throughout Colorado Springs as the project advances.
Beginning in early 2027, gFiber will provide retail internet service directly to homes and businesses in the community.
While customers may notice this change related to internet service offerings, our long-term vision remains the same: building a reliable fiber network that supports utility operations, emerging technologies and future community needs.
What is our role?
We own and maintain the fiber infrastructure, much like we own and maintain other essential utility infrastructure throughout the community.
Internet service is provided by our private-sector anchor tenant who uses the network to deliver broadband services directly to residential and business customers.
This model allows us to focus on designing, building and maintaining the infrastructure we need, while the ISP anchor tenant manages retail internet services.
Why invest in fiber?
The fiber network is about more than internet connectivity.
Fiber infrastructure supports advanced utility technologies that can improve operational efficiency, enhance system reliability and help meet the evolving needs of our growing community. As technology continues to advance, having a city-wide fiber backbone creates opportunities to support future innovations across utility services and the broader community.
Like investments in pipelines, power lines and treatment facilities, fiber infrastructure is a long-term asset designed to deliver utilities service well into the future.
What does the provider transition mean for customers?
We understand that customers may have questions about the transition to a new anchor tenant.
We are committed to keeping customers informed throughout the process and minimizing disruptions wherever possible. Existing internet service subscribers will receive direct communication from our new tenant about changes, timing and support options.
The transition positions the project for continued success while creating opportunities for additional community benefits as the network expands.
Construction continues across the city
While the provider is changing, construction of the fiber network continues.
We remain focused on expanding the network across Colorado Springs and making strategic investments that strengthen community infrastructure. As additional areas are connected, more residents and businesses will have opportunities to benefit from the growing network.
Every phase of the project brings Colorado Springs one step closer to a more connected future.
Looking ahead
Building infrastructure is always a long-term commitment. The benefits extend far beyond today's needs and help prepare communities for tomorrow's opportunities.
Our focus remains on delivering lasting value, maintaining transparency and continuing to invest in infrastructure that supports the people and businesses who call Colorado Springs home.
We'll continue sharing updates as the project progresses and encourage customers to stay informed through our website and customer communications channels.
