We are working to improve water service on North Academy Boulevard. Multiple isolation valves on large diameter water pipelines along the boulevard and nearby areas are being installed. These valves allow us to safely isolate the water distribution system to improve operational reliability.
The project is broken into three construction phases that will be conducted between 2023-2025. Phases 1 and 2 of the project are complete.

Phase 3: January-October 2025
On Jan. 6, 2025, we began work to replace a water vault underneath Academy Boulevard, near its intersection with Meadowland Boulevard. The water vault we are replacing was originally installed in the 1960s. The new vault will improve the reliability of water service in the area and allow us to better identify water leaks.
Over the past few years, we have installed multiple valves on our large water main beneath Academy Boulevard, allowing this vault work to be performed without impacting the water service of any customers.
Jan. 6-22, 2025

The left-hand lanes of northbound and southbound Academy Boulevard between Flintridge Drive and Meadowland Boulevard were closed.
Jan. 23, 2025-Sept. 22, 2025

Academy Boulevard between Flintridge Drive and Meadowland Boulevard is reduced to one lane southbound and two lanes northbound. Traffic shifted to the northbound side of the road, with many turns in the area affected.
- We do not expect impacts to water service in the area.
Sept. 22, 2025-Oct. 29, 2025
- Academy Boulevard will remain reduced to one lane in both the southbound and northbound directions, with southbound traffic shifted to the northbound side. Turns at Meadowland Boulevard will be affected.
Oct. 30, 2025
- Normal traffic restored.
We recognize that this project will significantly impact motorists in the area. Those traveling through this corridor are asked to drive carefully and slowly for their safety and the safety of the crews on site.
Thank you for your patience as we complete this crucial and final phase of the water project on Academy Boulevard, which will enhance the reliability of the water system in this area for years to come.
Completed phases
Phase 1: April 24-May 19, 2023 (Complete)
Water valves beneath Academy Boulevard at the Maizeland Road and North Carefree Circle intersections were successfully replaced.
Phase 2: April-May 2024 (Complete)
The phase enhanced water service reliability by installing multiple isolation valves on large-diameter water mains near the North Academy Boulevard and Austin Bluffs Parkway intersection. These valves will reduce the number of people affected when the water main is emptied for repairs or maintenance. In addition, they will help provide uninterrupted water service to customers during the final phase of system improvements on Academy Boulevard.
