Kelker to South Plant Transmission Line

The Kelker to South Plant Transmission Line Project involves constructing a high voltage overhead transmission line to connect two of our existing substations - Kelker (southeast) and South Plant (downtown).

Key benefits

Transmission structures and lines are among the most visible elements of our electric system. They support the transport of electric power from our generation sources, such as power plants, to customer homes and businesses.

The Kelker to South Plant Transmission Line will provide system reliability and help meet the growing electrical demand in the downtown and western areas of the city.

The new transmission poles will be steel monopoles, which are more reliable, fire resistant, and provide an extended lifespan compared to wood poles.

Project timeline

  • 2026: Design, easement and permit acquisitions are in progress.
  • Summer/Fall 2026: Pre-construction activities scheduled.
  • 2027: Target for completion.
