Multi-factor authentication (MFA) setup instructions

Step 1

Make sure you have an Internet connection before you continue.

Open a web browser and navigate to: https://account.activedirectory.windowsazure.com/proofup.aspx?whr=csu.org

On the “Colorado Springs Utilities” login page, enter the password you were sent and click "Sign in".

On the “More Information Required” screen, verify your username is correct and click “Next”.

Step 2

Choose which method you would like to use for MFA. (Office phone is not supported.)

Mobile app or Authentication phone

Mobile app

MFA directions below will use the “Microsoft Authenticator” mobile application which can be downloaded from the following links.

On the "Additional Security Verification" Step 1 screen, choose the following and click "Set Up".

  • How should we contact you?
    Mobile app
  • How do you want to use the mobile app? 
    Receive notifications for verification

This step configures the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile phone. Follow the instructions on the “Configure Mobile App” page.

Click “Next” after the image scan has been accepted.

In the Microsoft Authenticator application, you should now have a “Colorado Springs Utilities” account.

Upon returning to the “Additional Security Verification” Step 1 screen, the “Set Up” button should now be greyed out and a message letting you know that the mobile app has been configured. Click "Next".

On the “Additional Security Verification” Step 2 screen, use the Microsoft Authenticator application on your phone to “Approve” the sign in.

On the “Additional Security Verification” Step 3 screen, enter a valid phone number where you can be reached if access to the mobile app is lost and click “Done”.

On the “Additional Security Verification” screen, do not change anything and click “Cancel” at the bottom.

After clicking “Cancel”, you will be logged into your Colorado Spring Utilities account.

Congratulations, you have completed the multi-factor authentication set up for your Colorado Spring Utilities account. You may sign out of your account.

Authentication Phone

The directions below will use a phone to set up MFA.

On the “Additional Security Verification” Step 1 screen, choose the following:

  • How should we contact you?
    Authentication phone
  • Enter valid country and telephone number.
  • Method
    Call me
  • Click “Next”. You will receive a phone call at the number you provided.

On the “Additional Security Verification” Step 2 screen, answer the phone call and follow the instructions.

Back on the “Additional Security Verification” Step 2 screen, you should see the "Verification Successful!" message. Click "Done".

On the “Additional Security Verification” screen, do not change anything and click “Cancel” at the bottom.

After clicking “Cancel”, you will be logged into your Colorado Spring Utilities account.
