Energy Wise Plus Rates

Energy Wise Plus is one of three electric rate options that offers discounted electric rates during periods of lower demand and higher rates during critical peak events.

The lower rates take effect during "off-peak saver" times, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. every day, including holidays.

Energy Wise Plus is designed to encourage customers to reduce demand on the system during times when energy demand is at its highest or there are emergency conditions.

This rate will be available to customers on Oct. 1, 2025.

“” Critical peak events

Critical peak events may be called at any time during on-peak hours (weekdays from 5 p.m. -9 p.m.). Only one event can be called per day. Events will last one to four hours with a maximum of 15 events per year.

Customers are not required to shut off power during a critical peak event. You can choose not to reduce or shift your electricity use during a critical peak event. You will be charged a higher rate for any electricity used during that time.

Notification of critical peak events

Customers will receive notification at least 24 hours before a scheduled event except in emergency situations. Notifications will be sent by email, text and automated phone calls. Customers can select to receive notifications via one or more of these channels based on their preferences.

  • Most residential and business customers with a smart meter are eligible.
  • Customers with renewable energy net metering, customers who participate in the Community Solar Garden Bill Credit Pilot Program and Community Solar Garden Program are not eligible.

Duration of rate

  • Customers are required to stay on the Energy Wise Plus rate for a minimum of 12 consecutive billing periods.
  • This allows sufficient time to adjust usage patterns and realize potential savings. After the initial 12-month period, customers can choose to switch to a different rate plan if desired.
