Water system

Our reliable water system traces its roots back to the planning pioneers who knew we would eventually outgrow our local supplies.

Their vision and wisdom continues to benefit us today.

Our employees continue this legacy by responsibly managing every aspect of our water system - from securing water rights to delivering high quality water to your home or business.

Water supply watch

It’s our responsibility to ensure we have enough water to meet our community’s needs.

We closely monitor our reservoir levels, snowpack, streamflow forecasts and operational factors to accurately determine our water supply.

Reservoirs

Our reservoirs are a critical part of our water system, storing multiple years of our water supply.

Many of them are open to the public for recreation activities like fishing, and non-motorized boating.

Agricultural water sharing

Through this innovative program, we partner with farmers in the Lower Arkansas River Valley to improve irrigation efficiency and preserve agriculture in our native river basin.

In exchange, we receive water that is no longer needed to irrigate crops, and we lease water back for agricultural and environmental uses.

Direct potable reuse

Direct potable reuse is an exciting technology that uses advanced methods to purify recycled wastewater to meet drinking water standards.

We are exploring this technology as an option to provide more flexibility in our system.

Water Quality Team

We have water infrastructure across 11 counties and within three of Colorado’s major river basins. To deliver high-quality water,it's important that we also help manage and protect the health of the watersheds that provide water for our community.

Our watershed planning team includes biologists, natural resource planners, raw water operators and environmental engineers. It’s their work to monitor water quality, address the impacts of erosion and protect our water supply from poor forest health conditions, wildfire, invasive species and more.
