South Catamount Dam Rehabilitation Project

The South Catamount Dam Rehabilitation Project is now complete!

South Catamount is one of three reservoirs owned and operated by Colorado Springs Utilities in the North Slope Recreation Area of Pikes Peak that stores drinking water for the city. It was originally built in 1937 and required life-cycle rehabilitation that included resurfacing of its steel face and replacement of infrastructure in and around the dam.

Construction work was completed safely while minimizing impacts to the surrounding watershed. The multi-year project, which began at the end of the 2023 recreation season, will preserve and extend the life of this critical reservoir for decades to come.

The reservoir is refilling and public recreation access will resume for the 2026 season in coordination with Pikes Peak – America’s Mountain. This includes restored motor vehicle access to North Catamount Reservoir.

Thank you to the community and visitors for their patience during construction. This investment reflects our ongoing commitment to reliability, resilience and responsible stewardship, building the future while protecting essential resources today.
